Local residents, artists, and music fans around the world are mourning the loss of rock n roll icon Roddy Jackson of the Central Valley, who passed away on Wednesday, December 7, at the age of 80.

Born George Rodrick Jackson on April 9, 1942, Jackson was an American rockabilly and rock and roll singer, songwriter, pianist, and saxophonist. He was known for his energetic stage performances and his unique blend of rockabilly, rhythm and blues, and country music.

The Fireballs released several singles and albums throughout the 1960s and 1970s, including the hit songs "Sugartime" and "Bo Diddley." Jackson also released several solo albums during this time.

In addition to his music career, Jackson was also a successful songwriter, writing songs for a number of artists, including Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Carl Perkins. He was also a regular performer on television and in Las Vegas showrooms.

Jackson continued to perform and record music until his death. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2019.
