Portugal Win 3 0 Over Turkey In Group F

Portugal Win 3-0 Over Turkey in Group F

Goals From Bernardo Silva and Bruno Fernandes Put Portugal in Control

Portugal Are Through to a Decisive World Cup

Portugal began Euro 2024 as one of the teams strongly fancied to win the competition so they hardly needed the huge helping hand given to them by Turkey in their opening game in Group F. They ran out comfortable 3-0 winners in Porto, despite the fact that the scoreline somewhat flattered them.

Turkey were much the better team for much of the first half and should have taken the lead on at least three occasions, but somehow the woodwork and some inspired goalkeeping from Rui Patricio came to Portugal’s rescue.

Against the run of play, Portugal took the lead just after the half-hour mark. Diogo Jota burst down the left and squared for Bernardo Silva whose first time shot beat Ugurcan Cakir in the Turkey goal. It was the least that Portugal deserved, having ridden their luck for much of the half.

Portugal doubled their lead just after the hour mark when Bruno Fernandes drilled a low shot into the bottom corner from the edge of the box. The game was then put beyond Turkey’s reach when Matheus Nunes added a third in the final minutes, slamming home from close range.

The result leaves Portugal top of Group F after the opening round of matches, with Turkey bottom. Portugal will now face the Netherlands in their next game, while Turkey will take on North Macedonia.
