Canada cruises into semifinals with victory over Argentina

Canada advances to the semifinals of the FIBA Women's AmeriCup 2023 with a 68-60 victory over Argentina. Nirra Fields led the way for Canada with a game-high 22 points and eight rebounds.

Canada will now face the winner of the Puerto Rico vs. Brazil quarterfinal in the semifinals on Saturday, July 8.

Canada got off to a strong start in the game, taking an early 10-0 lead. Argentina fought back to tie the game at 10-10, but Canada regained the lead and held on to it for the rest of the half. Canada led 36-28 at halftime.

Canada continued to control the game in the second half, extending its lead to 15 points at one point. Argentina made a late run, but Canada held on for the 68-60 victory.

Fields was the star of the game for Canada, scoring 22 points and grabbing eight rebounds. Kia Nurse added 16 points, and Bridget Carleton had 10 points and seven rebounds.

Canada will now face the winner of the Puerto Rico vs. Brazil quarterfinal in the semifinals on Saturday, July 8. The gold medal game will be played on Sunday, July 9.
